There are many scholarships available for students.  Each college and university has different requirements and expectations to receive various scholarships.  Most scholarship opportunities are dependent upon student area of interest.  Let's look at some some types of scholarships that are available for incoming freshmen student in general.

Links to an external site. should be a site that you become VERY familiar.  It has a wealth of information on it.  The site provides information on how to apply for college, financial aid, career planning, and more.  Videos discussing different careers are shown.  All information is provided for age appropriateness and for students, teachers, parents, or counselors.  Take a look at Rise Up MS! Other scholarships are available through countless private foundations, businesses, organizations, clubs, religious groups, and individuals. The best way to find private or foundation scholarships is through the Internet; however, be aware of scholarship scams Links to an external site.!

There are literally billions in scholarships, other financial aid and internships out there waiting to be found.  The trick to getting all that you can for college is to start looking early and often,  you never know where or when an opportunity might open up.

The first place to look is your local library, chamber of commerce and local businesses.   These places have some local scholarships or aid that is geared specifically to college bound students in the immediate area. Second is your parent’s work place, they may have scholarships for children of employees.  Finally, the third is the internet, which takes time and effort to troll through and find matches to your information and interest.   Here are the top scholarship search engines according to US News & World Report:
