Unit 5 - Glossary

  1. Cell—individual box in a table in which a column and row meet
  2. Database program—software that contains information organized into categories for easy retrieval
  3. Drop-down list box—an item in a table or form that allows the user to click a down-arrow and choose a specific piece of data from a list
  4. Ellipsis—a series of three dots (periods) that indicate there is more information to come
  5. Fields—the categorized data in a record
  6. Filter—a temporary process of separating information from a database that matches defined criteria (a filter is temporary)
  7. Form—an object that is primarily used to enter or display one record at a time in a database
  8. Grouping level—a setting that displays a report grouped by common field entries
  9. Input mask—a template that uses display characters to control how data is entered in a field
  10. Query—the process of separating information from a database that matches defined criteria where the results can be saved for further editing
  11. Quick access toolbar—mini toolbar found at the left side of the Title Bar containing shortcuts for common tasks like Save, Undo, Redo buttons
  12. Records—all of the information related to a single entry in a database
  13. Report—an attractive way to display data from a table or query
  14. Ribbon—row of tools and buttons found at the top of the screen that perform various formatting tasks
  15. Scroll bar—the sliding bar found along the right side of the screen that allows you to see the remainder of a database or document
  16. Table—a methods of displaying and editing a database that looks very similar to a spreadsheet with columns and rows
  17. Title bar—the bar that runs across the top of the screen that lists the name of presentation as well as the name of the program
